The principal role of the Senior Business Analyst is to lead on the design, development and control of SmartestEnergy US’s systems and processes.

The Senior Business Analyst will develop deep knowledge of the end to end business and operational processes and support the strategic design of architecture and systems that facilitate delivery of company-wide goals and objectives.

They will be responsible for engaging with the breadth of business representatives and working closely with internal and external IT & Change colleagues, partners and vendors to drive the translation of business requirements into application solutions, solving complex commercial and operational challenges to push the business forward.

This is a pivotal role in an exciting, well back organisation with a global footprint and an opportunity to be part of a growing start up in a stable market.


Requirements Translation

•Drive analysis, validation and verification to determine what data is required to support business needs, where it is created, read, updated and deleted and the quality criteria associated with it.
•Lead in the coordination of effort with staff, vendors and customers to understand the business requirements to design the data architecture, solutions, and processes.

Problem Solving, Process Improvement and Solution Delivery

•Maintain wider team problem solving and analysis while balancing data, technology, business and operational issues to identify and deliver viable solutions.
•Mapping process design, delivering solutions, monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast responses to front-end users.
•Delivery of customised reports and recommendations to support on-going business decisions and customer reporting requirements.
•Leads analysis of the business solution architecture and identification of key areas of concerns based on an understanding of the customer situation including core business functions, technical requirements, and company goals.

Creation & Management of Processes and Data Artefacts

•Lead on the development of processes including models (conceptual, logical and physical).
•Ensure alignment of data artefacts and processes through close working relationships with the business and operational stakeholders.

Technical, Operational and Commercial change analysis, direction and decision making

•Lead on priority projects or initiatives requiring engagement with the full range of stakeholders and developers, using on industry knowledge or domain expertise to deliver change that enables business success
•Support definition and analysis of the needs for change and the value opportunity
•Support the definition of road maps and portfolios of change that reflect business strategy and performance objectives
•Champion the importance of analysis and evidence for informed decision making, benefits realisation and tracking


Balancing the competing priorities of:

-the need to deliver systems and operational capability rapidly, with
-the need to introduce governance and control around SmartestEnergy’s processes, while
-developing a solution architecture that is scalable and enables the business to grow and differentiate its service offering.


1.Relevant Skills and Educational Qualifications:

a.Graduate in a relevant discipline or area
b.Ability to rapidly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies
c.Can balance the long-term ("big picture") and short-term implications of individual decisions
d.Ability to translate business and customer needs into solution, process, and data requirements
e.Ability to collaborate, work independently, and manage, teach, and mentor team members
f.Ability to work across swim lanes and deliver results

2.Relevant Knowledge:

a.The ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, concise manner (verbal and written) across functional and technical departments
b.Work on multiple tasks at any one time, handling conflicting demands, prioritise workload and effectively delegate while maintaining high quality standards
c.Sound judgement, attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through on actions including the flexibility to perform in an ever-changing work environment

3.Relevant Experience:

a.5+ years’ work experience in US retail energy markets
b.Energetic, driven and committed to project success while working under tight time constraints and pressure.
c.Stakeholder management skills to facilitate change delivery in a busy working environment with competing day-to-day priorities.
d.High emotional resilience and good interpersonal and relationship building skills.

Work location is flexible
